1.
blameless 04:11
The base of the pillar is rotted, collapsing. The words hewn into stone: 'this is not my fault'. How long have we not listened? No one could blame them for what we all deserve. For how long will they still forgive us?
2.
not art 04:27
A shameful display for all to see. Pathetic, embarrassing, inflicted on the unwilling. Not art, nothing transgressive. Just another instance of disgust. Provoking. Triggering. Shameful, embarrassing. I don't want this. Not art. Nothing transgressive. I don't want to listen.
3.
An endless question, seeking an answer. Reframe: Write it on walls. Of course, yeah. I mean, well you would. And ask for permission. Pretend, pretend. Pretend, scared of the answer you'll get. Hold the mirror up to yourself. See what you get.
4.
A corrupting methodology is specially selected, and biased for results. An athletic deception. Pedestal thinking, lacking in humanity. An institutional definition of survivability. First, do no harm. Is this what you want?
5.
sick display 04:58
On display, repeat it, til it makes you sick. Anyone listening can't turn away. Anyone who'll listen. Anyone who cares. They'll start to believe, eventually. Taking ill effects. With repetition: acquiescence. And I'm just thinking, starting to wonder, what it would be like to crawl inside that self deception. Performative, toxic, acquiescence. Demonstrating combat submission. Surveillance, submission.

about

Well’s story is a complicated one. Started in 2017 by Dase (Encirlcing Sea, Whitehorse, Clagg) and Riley (Yachtburner, Gloom, Skulleater), the band played a few shows, had a few drummers, then recorded their ‘meal ticket’ EP. Then Ben (Yachtburner) came on board to play guitar. Then Dase quit. Over 2018 lineup changed several times, with the result being the recording of the ‘jab’ EP, with Retch (Broozer, Neck Grip, Endless Bore) singing and Mathias (Laedj, Breve, Wasted Sun) playing drums. Dario (Broozer, Willis' Afro. Ancient man) then entered the picture on drums to replace Mathias and Retch wimped out on the vocal duties. So in the second half of 2019 Dase returned to the fold as vocalist and second guitarist. Still following, or do you need a flow chart?

Now, in 2020, the band return with ‘trench dancer’, a five song collection of abrasive, metallic noise rock that would appeal to fans of mid period Neurosis, Cavity, Unsane, Threadbare, and anything involving pounding drumming and barbed-wire guitars. Written by the band over the course of the previous year, the songs contain a harmonic complexity, rhythmic density, and seethe with barely contained frustration and anger. Lyrically the album is a statement of frustration and disgust with the dominant, overwhelmingly male voice of discourse; from the wider world (blameless, first…do no harm) to the heavy music communities the band is a part of (not art, sick display).

Recorded and mixed by Mike Deslandes at the Black Lodge and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, this is Well’s most focused, visceral collection of songs to date.
